Jim Carrey and James Marsden star in this live-action adventure based on the popular Sega video game franchise.
A small-town South Dakota cop (Marsden) teams up with Sonic the Hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Carrey).
Look, it was never going to be easy turning an insane concept like Sonic—a super-fast blue rodent with a ring fetish—into a broadly-appealing film, but Sonic the Hedgehog‘s absolute refusal to lean into its own weirdness has resulted in a predictably wholesome, blindingly forgettable experience.

Their truly epic bad decision, far worse than the original fussy humanoid design of Sonic, was to make the "Sonic" movie into one of those clunky live-action adventure comedies with a digitally animated generic weisenheimer plopped into the middle of it.

It all adds up to a film with very few surprises, but several happy treats. If you're in charge of an under-10 anytime soon, you'll be happy you had the excuse to go.
